The annual Cleveland Kite Festival, a highlight event of the Ohio Society for the Elevation of Kites, is an exhilarating celebration of kites and kite flying set against the picturesque backdrop of Cleveland.
This year’s festival offers an opportunity to consider and elevate the connection between kites and Gaza. Gazans have a long history of kite-making and flying, connected with symbolic calls for freedom among Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict with Israel. Gazans even set a Guinness World Record in 2011 for most kites flown simultaneously, flying over 12,000 kites in one day.
